In Both Camps; Grimsby Town

Grimsby Town are in league action, but used to play in the second tier of English football. They signed a number of players from Leicester City in that period.

One who shined in both colours was Stuart Campbell. Coming through at Leicester he was sold to Grimsby in 2001. He joined after a earlier loan spell. Campbell played 156 league games and scored 12 goals for The Mariners until 2004 when he moved to Bristol Rovers.

Not to forget Joe Waters. Waters played 13 league games for Leicester from 1971 to 1976, before making his switch to Grimsby for a fee of £10.000. He had previously been on loan and in total Waters made 356 league games, scoring 65 goals.

Andy Peake was another Leicester hero that made his switch to The Mariners. He played at Blundell Park for a season before moving to Charlton in 1986. Grimsby paid Leicester a six figure fee for his services. A total of 39 league games and 4 goals for The Mariners.

Tommy Williams was another long servant at Leicester that also represented Grimsby. He played 20 league games for The Mariners from 1988 to 1991, being injury plagued at the time.

In recent years Ben Grist in one to mention. The defender joined Leicester academy from Grimsby, having played fo their first team at a very early age. He was released at Leicester this summer and is now with Boston United.

Danny Coyne joined Leicester from Grimsby in 2003. He played 4 league games for Leicester before moving to Burnley. The Wales international goalkeeper was capped 16 times. He had a good and successful spell with Grimsby. He played 181 league games between 1999 and 2003.

Winger Jamie Lawrence also turned out for both clubs. He was at Leicester from 1995 to 1997, playing 47 league games, scoring 1 goal. He joined The Mariners in 2004, making 5 league appearances. He moved on to join Brentford.

Former Leicester assistant and interim manager Michael Appleton had a life at Blundell Park as a player. Appleton join on loan from Man Utd and played 10 league games in 1997. Craig Shakespeare also had a spell at Grimsby during his career.
