Leicester u.18 are fifth in their league and a great 2-0 win away to Chelsea shows how the youth have progressed and are on a really exciting path. Goals from Brandon Ashley Cover and Amani Richards secured the victory.
Cover is a midfielder and Amani, who came on as a sub, is an attacker, replacing the highly rated US born forward Zac Booth. Amani joined the club from Arsenal in January. This is a group of players to look out for and will be pushing for a place in the u.23’s next season as some allready have made their mark on that level.
We are seeing a flush of talent and a very interesting development at Leicester and in the UK at the moment with a totally new and more professional approach that makes the future for football very exciting.
We all know how long players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated the game, and still are able to compete. This makes it possible for young talent to get through as the level on the current players between 25 and 30 are not at a level that will see them dominate much going forward.
This squad do have talent and as the set up grows players are given time out on loan at other FL clubs and then giving new and younger players a chance to shine. There are many names to look out of, with Butterfill and Grist as two others to have a mark on.
The progress of this team and also all those doing so well in the U.23’s and still just teenagers makes it interesting to follow as Leicester going forward need to focus on home grown talent more than in the past as buying talent looks difficult.
Previous wins against Arsenal and Tottenham are of course great to see as the teams in and around Leicester level do have a struggle on their hands and to defeat youth teams at Chelsea shows how this is progressing.
Following every step of the u.18’s you can just look up our season page.
